Blue Beetles

For this weeks jam at trdl-r3-weeklyjam on deviantart.

"This week's theme jam: Identity Crisis!
Draw two characters, who use the same costumed identity, encountering each other. They can be fighting, talking, making out, what have you. Any genre. Think Jim Rhodes vs Tony Stark in Iron Man armors, or two reincarnations of Dr. Who, Peter Parker vs. Ben Reilly, that sort of thing. Don't have to be the same PERSON, but the same identity."

Covered - Spider Man # 383

This is my first piece of artwork to be featured on the Covered blog (where artists get together to re-interpret existing comic book covers in their own style.)

This is my take on Amazing Spider Man #383

Here is what the original cover artwork looked like:

Deathblow 2099

The recent DC 2099 contest on the Artist Forum at Comicvine asked us to design a futuristic version of the DC Comics characters Deathblow. Here's what I came up with:

Salamander and Kid Gecko

I created these two characters for the recent Character Creation Contest on the Artist Forum at Comicvine.com
The brief was to "create a character (human, human hybrid, monster, creature, robot, whatever your like) based on reptilians (lizards, cocodriles, alligators, snakes, turtles, etc)."

I came up with SALAMANDER and his side-kick KID GECKO.

In a world where reptiles evolved along side apes, Homo Sapiens and Homo Reptilia live side by side and both species have their heroes.

SALAMANDER can create and manipulate fire. He is also impervious to the effects of fire and extreme high temperatures. His side-kick KID GECKO has the ability to adhere to virtually any surface and has enhanced agility.

Skeletor

This was done for the Artist's Showdown on the Artist Forum at Comicvine.com.
The challenge was to draw Skeletor from Masters of the Universe. We could choose any scene or scenario but we had to include his staff and sword. Here's what I came up with:

Hercules Vs Wonder Woman

This is my entry for the recent Battle Contest on the Artist Forum at Comicvine.com. The challenge was to depict a battle between Marvel Comic's Hercules and DC Comic's Wonder Woman.

Sekhmet - Remake/Remodel

I took part in the recent Remake/Remodel thread at Whitechapel on Freakangels.com. There is some great art by some great artists there.
Here are the instructions we were given:

SEKHMET – Warrior Goddess.

Many of our first childhood exposure to ancient mythologies came via mainstream Superheroes, appropriated from the same. Thor, Hercules and others: for millions of people the Spandex Supers were a gateway-drug to forgotten cultures. I want to know what would’ve happened if Marvel or DC had picked a very different deity to crowbar into their heroic continuities. How would she look on the spinracks of today?

In Egyptian mythology, Sekhmet (also spelled Sachmet, Sakmet, Sakhet, Sekmet, Sakhmet and Sekhet; and given the Greek name, Sachmis), was originally the warrior goddess as well as goddess of healing for Upper Egypt. She is depicted as a lioness, the fiercest hunter known to the Egyptians. It was said that her breath created the desert. She was seen as the protector of the pharaohs and led them in warfare
During an annual festival held at the beginning of the year, a festival of intoxication, the Egyptians danced and played music to soothe the wildness of the goddess and drank great quantities of beer ritually to imitate the extreme drunkenness that stopped the wrath of the goddess—when she almost destroyed humankind.

Your job is to redesign, revamp, reinvent, remake and remodel this character into something that would work for the 21st Century.

This was my version of the character:

Crank Those Panels

I am a frequent contributer on the Artist Forum at Comicvine.com. There are regular art contests on the forum and this is my entry for the recent "Crank Those Panels" contest. The brief was to recreate, in your own style, the panels from a featured page from a comic book.

This is my version of the story:

Below are the panels (from Captain America #373) we had to recreate:

The Doctor

I am a sometime contributer to trdl-r3-weeklyjam on deviantart and this is my submission to this weeks "No Spandex" Jam. The brief was; "to draw a hero or villain character that doesn't have a "costume" with very deliberate quotes there, ie. no spandex, custom armor, etc. Keep this one in the realm of what wouldn't look out of place on the streets today."

As you can see I chose The Doctor (from Doctor Who, in case you didn't know).

Illustration Friday: "Imperfect"

This is my first submission to Illustration Friday. I hope to make it a regular thing.

Marvel Alphabet Challenge

I have decided to set myself a little challenge...

I have always been a fan of superhero comics and in particular Marvel comics. So for the next 26 days I will attempt to create a picture of a Marvel character each day, going from A to Z.

Everyone's Welcome, Make Yourselves at Home.

Welcome to "Craig's Art Blog". Not a very imaginative title I'll agree, but this is where I will attempt keep a record of my artwork, sketches, doodles and any other ideas that fall out of my head.
